MACON, Ga. — Hurricane Milton is set to make landfall in Florida in the next few days, and GEMA is opening several locations across Central Georgia for people looking for shelter from the storm.
According to their website, GEMA will be opening shelters in Bibb County, Houston County, Monroe County and Crisp County. They are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
GEMA is encouraging people with campers and RVs to find Georgia State Parks for refuge from the storm. The Atlanta Motor Speedway's campgrounds were also opened for those looking for somewhere to stay as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida.
Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall sometime Wednesday afternoon, according to the latest forecasts. Here is the list of Central Georgia shelters that are opening for Hurricane Milton:
