MACON, Ga. — Central Georgia is no stranger to getting summer off to an early start, right?
That was the case this year with plenty of above-average days.
There were 10 days over the month of May in 2024 that were clocked above average since the start of the month. Of these above-average days, we eclipsed the 90-degree mark on three of them for the first time in 2024.
However, we received our fair share of below-average days to balance this out at 19 days. Two days in May were right on par, with May 16 and May 22 in the normal range.
But compared to 2023, you would be correct in saying we definitely got an early start to the summer.
Our temperature was just over 2 degrees higher than the average temperature in May 2023.
So, while it was a warm May this year, we were still generally on average for the month of May all-time at about 73 degrees.
However, a couple of those days in the past two weeks certainly made it feel much warmer in the afternoon heat.
With the hottest months of the year ahead, 90's won't seem bad at all compared to the swampiness that's sure to come in the next couple of weeks.
