Crisp County first responders save several people after flash flooding hits homes, cars

The Emergency Operations Center in Crisp County recorded at least four inches of rain.

MACON, Ga. — Heavy overnight rain in Crisp County resulted in flash flooding with people being trapped in cars and homes, according to Sheriff Billy Hancock.

More than four inches of rain has fallen in Crisp County overnight, causing flash flooding in the area.

People in the area are asked to stay off the roadways as some of the roads in Crisp County have flooded.

Several homeowners  in the 400 block of Fourth Avenue West called to report water entering their homes. They were asked to evacuate but some chose to stay.

Hancock, who is also the EMA Director for Crisp County, says several drivers attempted to drive through the flood waters and had to be rescued by first responders.

There are currently no reported injuries.

13WMAZ will continue to update this story as more information is made available.

Weather Update

Weather Update Citizens, we urge you to exercise caution and consider refraining from traveling if at all possible. This is not the time to venture out to observe flooded areas. Remember, just 6 inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock over an adult, and it takes only 12 inches to carry away most cars. Even SUVs and trucks can be swept away by just 2 feet of rushing water. Please remember, it is NEVER safe to drive or walk into floodwaters. Your safety is paramount.

Weather Update

Weather Update Parts of Crisp County received 4.23”-4.84” of rain. The dynamics of today's flooding event will continue to change throughout the day as water moves from one side of the community to the other. This means that the status of roads may change throughout the day. We urge citizens to continue to be cautious as they travel. Even though the sun is out, there is still a lot of water in multiple areas of the county. Reminder: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Do not underestimate the force and power of water. Don’t drive through water over the roadway. Never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road. If you need assistance please dail 9-1-1!
