MACON, Ga. — This evening, Macon-Bibb County's Emergency Management Agency Office hosted an Open House.
This allowed the general public to take a first-hand look at their Emergency Operations Center and get a look at their decision-making process during severe weather events.
Meteorologist Alex Pry got a chance to talk to Spencer Hawkins, the EMA Director of Bibb County, about what all tonight's Open House entailed.
It allowed the general public to get an up close and personal look at their center of operations and all the technology they utilized, first and foremost.
Additionally, they also handed out free supplies for Emergency Safety Kits at home.
To add a bit of a fun incentive, the EMA office partnered with Newtown Macon for First Friday who created a large variety of "Storm Themed" drinks at many local businesses in downtown Macon.
This comes as the first day of Hurricane Season is approaching just less than a month away now. Not only does it serve as a reminder to stay weather aware as the tropics ramp up, but to also see where decisions about community response are made when there is severe weather damage.
