MACON, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Transportation is warning Macon drivers to prepare for another set of traffic shifts in the agency's ongoing I-16 and I-75 interchange project.
According to a news release, the department plans to change two traffic patterns this week. The first will close the right lane on the entrance ramp to I-16 east, coming out of the I-16 and I-75 interchange. That lane closure goes into effect each night Monday through Friday, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The other traffic shift will move drivers from the left lanes of I-16 west to the right lanes, starting just before the exit to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and up to Spring Street.
Spring Street's far right lane at the I-16 west on-ramp is still closed, along with the right lane of the on-ramp itself. GDOT says they are closed for "several months."
The massive $500 million project broke ground in 2017. The seven-phase 'megaproject,' as GDOT calls it, is currently on phases 4 and 5. The department estimates construction will be finished by the end of 2030, though they say much of the road work will be complete by 2026.
