MACON, Ga. — This spooky season, folks are getting into the spirit by stuffing their baskets and dressing up in their best costumes.
One celebration in Central Georgia included a "thrilling" performance based on what many consider to be a Halloween classic.
Saturday night, Cherry Street Plaza was filled with people showing love for the Michael Jackson Thriller music video.
Every year thousands of people come out to enjoy the show. Charlee Jones came to the festival to see the recreation of her favorite Michael Jackson song. She says she was most excited to see the dancer.
"And to honor him, that's why I dressed up as him," Jones said.
The Thriller performance started at 9 p.m. but there were performances from the Hiyaya Dance Theatre, who are located on Brookdale Avenue, before it got underway.
Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the performances, eat at food trucks, and show off their Halloween costumes. Amanda Thomas and her family dressed as zombies to perform in the Thriller recreation. The grandmother, daughter and granddaughter trio were excited to perform for the first time.
"Michael Jackson Thriller is amazing and it's really great to be a part of something bigger than just me," Thomas said.
The Thriller Parade is also a way to support breast cancer awareness initiatives. Several breast cancer survivors shared their stories battling the disease.
Thomas says it was a great experience to be a part of a team and bring together a staple Macon event.
"It's fun to just be a part of something that's been going on for a long time," she said. Adding, "This is really fun to participate in and be on the performance side instead of the audience side for the first time."
