MACON, Ga. — Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Mallory Jones says there are two areas on north Macon roads he'd like to see fixed up before his final term finishes.

He spoke about them in a recent taping of Central Georgia Focus. The first is a bridge widening project on Bass Road, just up from the road widening project near the interstate. The bridge spans the railroad.

"We thought that was going to start in January, but I'm hearing now that it's not going to start until September or October," Jones said.

It's valuable time he hopes the state Department of Transportation will help him take advantage of.

"Highway 41 and Old Forsyth Road. There's an intersection there. It's dangerous," he said.

Jones wants some way to control the traffic there because there are near misses and frequent accidents.

"I'd like to see them put a traffic light or a roundabout," Jones said.

Jones says the delay could help him finally get a light at the intersection because he believes traffic will get redirected through it. He says it'll make a dangerous situation that much more trouble.

"I have to work with GDOT on this, trying to get them to work with us on it," he said.

Jones says it's already in progress, but he's just waiting on the official green light.

"It's a state road, so, in fact, I've already sent an email off," Jones said.

GDOT says they're doing an analysis for what they can do at the intersection. They confirmed construction on the bridge will start up in September.
