Stratford boys and Central Fellowship girls win GIAA soccer championships | Central Georgia Sports

This was an active weekend for soccer in the 478! Stratford boys and Central Fellowship girls clinched titles as the cumulation of two remarkable seasons.

MACON, Ga. — At the Stratford soccer fields this weekend, local soccer teams were looking to get their hands on some hardware. And for the Stratford boys and Central Fellowship girls, they came home with GIAA trophies this weekend.

Stratford vs. Saint Anne Pacelli

Coming off of GMC Prep's championship win against Atkinson County High School on Tuesday, Stratford took the pitch Friday night hoping to leave state champions.

Stratford came in the midst of an undefeated season, and after taking on St. Anne Pacelli, they would end their season undefeated state champs!

Within the first five minutes of play, the Eagles spread their wings, with lucky number 13 Gavin Aguirre scoring the first goal of the championship game.

Stratford entered the second half 1-0.

But Aguirre was not done.

With a free kick, Aguirre grabs his second goal of the game. The Eagles were up big early in the second half and they charge the student section to celebrate.

Later on during the match, Jude Burgess gets in the game with 8 minutes left in the match. Aguirre grabbed an assist but Burgess sent the ball to the back of the net.

The Stratford Eagles ended their season undefeated, grabbing a 3-0 win against St. Anne Pacelli.

You can hear from Aguirre and the team's coach Iain Jones in our highlight video down below.

Central Fellowship vs. Westminster Christian

In the GIAA girl's 2A title game, Central Fellowship hosted Westminster Christian out of Oconee County at the Stratford soccer fields on Saturday.

Lady Lancers might've been on a different field, but they're still right at home. Lois Tanner was out in style, securing a their first score of the game. With 32 minutes to go in the first half and it's already 1-0 for CFCA.

But Tanner was back at it later on in the game. In the second half, Tanner sent the ball rolling into the back of the net yet again, giving CFAA a 2-0 lead. On the big stage, the freshman rookie is already making their mark.

That score would hold with CFCA capping off an impressive season with a 2-0 win over Westminster in the state finals. The lady lancers finished their season off with a 14-5 record, and Westminster Christian's loss in the title match was only their second all season.
