MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — GMC Prep and Atkinson County High School boy's soccer battled for the Class A Division 2 State Championship Tuesday night. And dawgs will be dawgs! GMC came out on top, finishing the season champs. The dawgs secured a win in the Class A Division 2 champions.
Senior Brian Sherwood off the corner kick in 26th minute, finding sophomore Tommy Carty with the header to score and take the 1-0 lead over the rebels — and GMC was on fire, and they wouldn't look back.
Around 7 minutes later, Owen McCabe with the laser assist on the cross to Bennie Huff IV. The sophomore makes it count and extends the bulldogs lead to 2-0 with about a dozen minutes left in the first half.
And just before the break, Brian Sherwood playing bully ball, steals the dribble, turns defense into offense and makes it a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Down the stretch GMC leading 3-1 and Tommy Carty all but puts it away with the one time, his second goal of the night.
At the end of the game, GMC Prep avenged last years title match loss with a final score of 4-1, marking the program's first championship win since 2021.
So after a hard fought season, Georgia Military Prep is your class A Division 2 Champs, the dawgs finish with an impressive 17-2 record to finish the season — sitting on top of the GHSA!
