FFN Roundup: Perry overcomes Peach County to remain undefeated, Central Georgia offenses score big

Here's a breakdown of the top games and performances during Week 2 of Football Friday Night

MACON, Ga. — Week 2 of the high school football season did not disappoint.

Several games came down to one score, with others, like Northside’s matchup against Baldwin, coming down to one point.

Here’s a roundup of scores and some highlights from around Central Georgia.

Game of the Week

Peach County vs Perry: Two undefeated teams, both coming off of big wins in the Gridiron Classic. Now, they're playing against each other? Sounds like a game of the week.

Peach County took an early lead, then the Panthers eventually surged ahead.

Their offense, led by senior quarterback Cullen McDaniel and the running back dynamic duo of Ahmad Gordon and Decorrion Daniels, scored quickly.

Perry led by as many as 25 at one point in the night. However, Peach County continued to rally back.

Led by quarterback DJ Hudson Jr. and offensive threat Zion Hudson, they found a way to get points on the board. DJ Hudson Jr. had no problem going for the deep ball and the Raiders found some success.

However, it was plays like a pick-6 from Perry defensive back Johntavious Carswell that ultimately made it difficult for Peach County to get back into the game. The defending state champs ultimately won 49-39, but both teams showed why they’re ones to watch going forward this season.

Three Stars

Warner Robins defense: The Demons offense also deserves credit for a big turnaround win after a tough loss against Lee County last week. Their 42 points showed how capable their offense is, but the Warner Robins defense held up incredibly well and managed to get the ball back to their offense consistently.

Isaiah Gibson, a five-star prospect committed to the University of Georgia, popped off the field making a play every time a Fayette County player touched the ball. Other players like defensive back and Georgia Tech commit Rasean Dinkins made several plays and kept Fayette to only seven points all game.

Kip Burdette, West Laurens head coach: After a Week 1 bye, Burdette got his team starting the season off strong.

The Raiders won only two games last season, and one in 2022. Yet, to start this season they shut out Groves 28-0. While there’s still plenty of season left for Burdette and West Laurens, the team started the year out on the right foot with a shutout victory.

60 point scorers: Teams were scoring in bunches on Friday. Dublin started the scoring with a 66-26 win over East Laurens, as their offense couldn’t stop pouring it on.

Head coach Roger Holmes and the Fighting Irish are 2-0 on the season and have already scored 107 points this season alone. Dublin’s large group of ball carriers is helping them find success early and often this year.

Not to be outdone, Brentwood scored one more point than Dublin with its 67-48 win over Pinewood.

After a 5-6 season last year, head coach Adam Lord has his team moving in the right direction, starting 2-0. Led by senior running back Zach Denton, the War Eagles have scored 111 points through only two games.
