MACON, Ga. — The 4A state championship in girls basketball is staying in Central Georgia after Baldwin knocked off Hardaway by a score of 47-39 at the Macon Coliseum on Wednesday night.
A season ago, the Baldwin Bravettes lost to Griffin in the state title game. Since then they’ve been on a mission: bring a title back to Baldwin.
The team faced adversity in the title game against the Hardaway Hawks. The Bravettes trailed at the end of the first, second and third quarters.
But in the fourth quarter, in a game in which they trailed by as many as 16, the team came to life and used an 11-0 run to take the lead and the title.
"It's just a testament to their hard work and their dedication and their drive to want to win," coach Kizzi Walker said. "I've gotta give it to the girls — they were determined to be state champions this year."
In the hallway of the Macon Coliseum, the Baldwin Bravettes doused coach Walker with water bottles in celebration of their victory.
Now, the team is heading back to Baldwin County state champions — one year after almost clinching the title.
