Baldwin hires Jones County assistant to take over as head coach

The new head coach served as the assistant head football coach, strength coach and wide receivers coach at Jones County last season.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The Baldwin Braves have a new head coach at the helm and it is a former Jones County assistant, according to a release from Baldwin County Schools. 

Kevin Patterson, the former assistant head football coach, strength coach and wide receivers coach, will step in to lead the Braves next season. He will replace Jesse Hicks who was let go on December 14 and has since taken over at East Laurens.

Patterson won a state title as a player at Camden County in 2003. Patterson was voted All-State first team by both the GACA and the AJC. He was also named Region 3-5A Defensive Player of the Year. Patterson graduated from Camden County High School in 2004 and went on to play four seasons at Wake Forest. 

He has previously coached at Tucker High School, TL Hanna in Anderson, South Carolina and McEachern High School before coaching one season at Jones County. 

The Greyhounds offense that racked up 4,971 total yards and had three different receivers go over 600 yards receiving under Patterson. 

Patterson has never held a head coaching position but has been one of the top coordinators in the state in the past.  Patterson is married to Sharonna Patterson and they have three kids: Kamden, Koley, Kyndall.
