MACON, Ga. — Stratford Academy football has a new head coach and it is a familiar name in Central Georgia.
Paul Carroll, who has served as Howard’s head coach for the last six seasons, is making the move to take over for the Eagles.
He will replace former head coach Chance Jones, who was released after two seasons.
Carroll led Howard to a 28-30 record with the Huskies including a playoff appearance in his first season at the helm in 2018.
Over the course of his career, Carroll has made stops at Warner Robins, Greene County, Jones County, McIntosh, Northside (Columbus), Griffin, Thomas County, Tift County High School and Bulloch Academy as a defensive coordinator.
“Coach Carroll is a leader who brings intensity, accountability, and fire to every program he has been involved in,” said Stratford Athletic Director Barry Veal. “Players love him and would run through a brick wall for him. Coach Carroll will have our students excelling in the classroom and on the field and will consistently have Stratford among the best in GIAA.”
He is a Georgia Southern graduate and has a Master’s from Troy University. He was a member of the 1990 National Championship team at Georgia Southern. During his time at Georgia Southern, he was named a Sporting News All-American, First-Team All-Southern Conference, Second-Team All-Conference, and received the Team Captain Award and GATA Award.
Stratford is holding a meet and greet this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in the Henry Tift IV Auditorium for Stratford families, alumni, and the community to meet Carroll.
