MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The John Milledge Academy Trojans are preparing for the first game of the season. The Trojans lost in the championship game last season to Valwood by a score of 42-21.
It was their first loss in more than 3 three years. Head Coach JT Wall will be looking to get the team focused heading into the new season.
“None of us are used to it. I mean, we have lost a game since 8th grade, so it’s hard,” Quarterback Kolt McMichael said. “But, you know, we got to get all these young guys to work together and just start playing together as a team and kind of live up to what those other guys kind of created, and just kind of keep building off that.”
The Trojans have flushed the loss and are looking forward to the season ahead. They are hoping the championship loss will fuel a hot start. The Trojans had won four straight titles before the loss to Valwood.
This year they are striving to start a new streak but it won’t be easy. The Trojans won’t have last season’s senior star Javian Butts. A lot of fans are wondering what the game plan for the backfield will be.
“We’re kinda running back by committee right,” Head Coach JT Wall said. “We are trying to see who wants to be that guy.”
Quarterback Kolt McMichael will be a vital part of the Trojans this year, Wall said.
“Kolt’s doing a great job, a great leader. You know he’s becoming kind of a more vocal leader.” Wall said. “He was more of a coach on the field last year, kind of an extension of us. He’s doing another good job of that this year.”
