MACON, Ga. — Despite scheduling changes and extensive travel, the Brookstone Cougars weathered the storm, knocking off the FPD Vikings with a pair of wins in the 2024 GIAA 4A state championship series in Macon.
After cruising to a 7-3 win in the first game of the series on Thursday, Brookstone came back to Luther Williams Field on Monday and did it all over again.
In a game that was postponed from Friday due to rain, FPD looked ready from the jump, scoring twice in the first inning to lead Brookstone 2-0.
Then came the bottom half of the inning.
The Cougars proceeded to score seven times in the bottom of the first inning to take a 7-2.
FPD didn't quit; the Vikings bounced back to score twice in the top of the sixth inning, thanks to a two-run double from Brady McHugh, scoring Reynolds Handberry and BJ Hughes.
From there, Brookstone cruised, winning game two of the series 9-5 to lock up the 2024 GIAA 4A state title.
