Logan Fink and Cory Bartholomew definitely knew how to win at Tattnall Square Academy.
“It was good to learn from those guys who have had the experience and have won before to teach us how to carry on the legacy,” former Tattnall Square Academy player and current Macon Bacon first baseman Logan Fink said.
Cory won his third state title with the Trojans as a senior in 2016, when Logan was just a sophomore at Tattnall.
“We are a winning program and we expect a lot out of our younger guys. I know we had a couple other seniors like myself that just took them under our wing,” Cory said. “In my senior year, we ended up winning, and that was the first year I played with him, and that was a really good experience.”
Fast forward three years later, the two are back on the diamond again, this time, for the Macon Bacon.
“It’s always good to have one of your friends that you have known for a while to be on your team, just make it an easier transition,” Logan said. “And it’s also fun just to get to hang out with him every day, too, because we are here all the time and it's really cool to be able to be back with one of my teammates again.”
This is the first time either of them are playing in the Coastal Plain League and have loved returning home and playing for the Bacon so far.
“The fans are awesome here. On the weekends, we usually sell out, and it's just awesome to pitch in front of the crowds like that. I mean, Tattnall fans come -- where I pitched in high school -- and they have always been big supporters and it's fun to pitch in front of those guys again,” Cory said.
Cory is entering his senior season at West Georgia, while Logan is a sophomore at Kennesaw State, and while they love playing in front of family and friends, their main priority is to improve their skills.
“I love baseball, or I wouldn’t be playing it, and it's always good to keep getting better,” Logan said. “Once you get complacent, it's kind of when you start going downhill, so you always gotta keep working and keep getting better each and every day.”
Each day, they can reflect on their old success from their high school days.
“That was a really good experience to go out my senior year with those younger guys knowing they were really good and they can carry on that legacy that we left for them,” Cory said.
But they’re hoping that championship they shared at Tattnall won’t be their last one together.
