JONES COUNTY, Ga. — People living in Jones County will have to foot the bill for a new fire truck after it was involved in a head-on collision Tuesday.
According to Fire Chief and EMA Director Don Graham, the truck was totaled in the fatal accident on Highway 49 that killed Michael Snider.
Graham says the truck will cost at least $425,000. He also identified the Macon-Bibb firefighter injured in the wreck as Steven Jones.
Jones is in the hospital with stitches from ‘head to toe,’ according to Graham. He says Jones’ boots came off from the impact of the accident, and that he had to crawl through the windshield to get out of the truck.
Jones works full-time as a Macon-Bibb County firefighter and volunteers for Jones County.
Graham says they’ve brought in a relief engine so people in Jones County won’t feel an impact from losing the fire truck.
Tuesday's accident was just one in a bizarre series of events surrounding Snider that involved a shed fire at his home and a woman found stabbed inside the house.
