A Georgia Red Lobster is closing — right up the road from Central Georgia: reports

The nautically themed restaurant chain has been in choppy water this year, shuttering 100 restaurants and recently filing for bankruptcy.

JONESBORO, Ga. — Another Georgia Red Lobster is closing its doors, bankruptcy filings suggest, and it is right up the road from Central Georgia.

Off of exit 233 on I-75, the Jonesboro Red Lobster is set to permanently close on Aug. 31, according to a CNN report. Pointing to recent filings in the company's ongoing bankruptcy case, they are "rejecting their lease" and closing the restaurant on Sunday.

According to CNN, they are closing 23 restaurants as they reject their leases, bringing the total number of restaurants closed this year to over 100.

It joins the list of three other Red Lobsters that have closed their doors in Georgia in the past year, including a location in Dublin. The contents of that location were put up for auction earlier this year.

If you were wondering how much you could snag the contents of a shuttered Red Lobster, the auction provided a clear answer: $7,850.

However, the person who purchased the contents of the Dublin Red Lobster likely got quite lucky. For some items included in that purchase, they retail far above $8,000.

If you want to see the full list of what that lucky bidder got with their nearly $8,000 investment, you can see the full list here.

The contents of the other two locations went for roughly $15,000, our sister station 11Alive reports

Along with Dublin, a Red Lobster in Athens and Roswell were shuttered in the mass closures. That set of closures included 80 locations across the United States.

Red Lobster has been in choppy water this year. The chain's bankruptcy proceedings have shed light on the various financial woes plaguing the company, ranging from self-induced high rents

The chain has reportedly lost millions on one of its most famous deals: $20 for endless shrimp. They said that deal was a part of the roughly $11 million loss the chain suffered in its third quarter of 2023.
