Robert 'Buck' Shannon wins race for Peach County Sheriff

Shannon has worked in Peach County since 1997.

PEACH COUNTY, Ga. — There’s a new sheriff in Peach County for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Robert ‘Buck’ Shannon has been elected as Peach County sheriff, succeeding sheriff Terry Deese, who has served as sheriff since 2005.

Deese elected not to run for re-election, and Shannon won a race against Republican candidate Ty Matthews. Shannon won with nearly 60% of the vote.

Shannon is 49, and has worked in Peach County since 1997. He has served as a jailer, a school resource officer and is currently a gang investigator.

Shannon has four children and three grandchildren.

Here's how Peach County voted in the race for sheriff.

Results: 

Robert Shannon: 7,871 (59%)

Ty Matthews: 5,308 (41%)
