CHICAGO — The Democratic National Convention in Chicago turned into a lively celebration as state delegations announced their votes for presidential nominee Kamala Harris, each accompanied by music reflecting their state’s cultural identity.

For Georgia, Atlanta’s own Lil Jon took center stage with a live performance of his hit “Turn Down for What,” but that wasn't the only Peach State tribute.

Athens-born band B-52s, known for hits like "Rock Lobster" and "Love Shack," also made an unexpected appearance in the DNC roll call, but not for Georgia. Instead, Idaho’s delegation chose the B-52s' song “Private Idaho” as their roll call anthem.

More about the B-52s

Formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, the B-52s quickly became known for their unique sound, blending new wave, punk, and dance music. Their debut album, featuring hits like “Rock Lobster,” was a critical and commercial success, and the band continued to produce popular tracks throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
