MACON, Ga. — A Macon woman is in jail on drug charges after police found her with almost a kilo of methamphetamine and other drugs. 13WMAZ took a look at how dangerous meth is and how is affects the body.
Wednesday night, the Bibb County Sheriff's Special Investigation Unit and DEA agents conducted a search warrant in a room at the Super 8 Motel. They found almost a kilo of meth, half an ounce of marijuana, and a large amount of cash.
They arrested 29-year-old Alicia Marie Willett of Macon. She is charged with trafficking of methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to distribute.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says between 2016 and 2017, methamphetamine-related deaths increased by 40 percent.
Dr. Grady Carter with the Coliseum Center for Behavioral Health says the addictive drug can turn someone's life upside down.
"Nobody thinks it will happen to them, and until they use it, they don't know how bad an addiction is because the first time, it really is choice, but it really takes over," said Dr. Carter.
He says meth can cause tooth decay, hallucinations, and irritability.
"The second, third, and fourth time don't make you as high as the first time and so they may take more than they intended to and it is possible to overdose on it," said Dr. Carter.
He says meth can affect every aspect of an addict's life.
"People lose their jobs, they lose their families, they end up on the street, they end up stealing, they end up in jail," said Dr. Carter.
The Georgia Department of Human Resources says meth use has grown the fastest in North Georgia and Central Georgia.
Alicia Marie Willett is being held without bond.
