PERRY, Ga. — People had some fun at the Winter Classic Swine Show in Perry.
The event was held by the Georgia Junior Livestock Foundation at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.
The Georgia Junior Livestock Foundation was founded as a statewide organization to promote youth livestock exhibitors of Georgia for their hard work and dedication. The Georgia State Livestock Shows were chosen as a forum to aid these young people.
Over 300 participants pigs competed in several categories including showmanship, pure breeding gilts, market gilts, purebred barrows and more.
Participants said the show is a good chance to compete and have fun seeing old friends.
Peyton Nixon was at the competition on Saturday. He is a high school junior and he has one more year left to participate in this level of competition.
"Really my friend got me into it. It's just something I just had a natural hobby for and it's just something that I've really got into over the years," he said.
Nixon also had advice for others who were interested in the competition.
"Don’t be nervous if you want to compete the competition may be a little tough but just relax and you’ll do your best and want to come back for more," he said.
