Warner Robins partners with No Limit Baptist Church to open warming shelter starting this week

The church is still looking for volunteers and donations like sleeping bags, pillows, blankets and hygiene products.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The temperature is starting to drop outside, and the city of Warner Robins found a new partner to provide shelter on cold nights below 32 degrees.

This month, 13WMAZ shared that the Warner Robins couldn't open their first city-owned shelter this winter, and plans fell through with the church that normally hosts a shelter.

Now, they're going to work with No Limit Baptist Church. This week they'll open their doors from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"This is the answer of prophecy," Pastor Vince Harrington said.

He says for the last three years, he's known this day would come.

"God said 'one day you're going to work with the city.' Not knowing how God's going to work, but then here we are three years later I get a call," he said.

That call came from city homeless liaison Brian Wise. He asked Harrington to expand their church-wide warming shelter into a city-wide shelter this winter.

Harrington says he was happy to, as they like to follow scripture like what's found in Matthew 25: "The way you shall know my sheep is that guess what, You will clothe them when they're naked, you'll go see them when they're in the prison and you'll feed them when they're hungry. That's what we're going to do here at No Limit Baptist Church."

The church has two trailers that will heat up men and women on cold nights.

"Looking at somewhere from 30-40 people coming in," she said.

Wise says no matter the outcome, no one will be turned away.

"I knew we were going to find somewhere because we were not going to leave our neighbors, our homeless neighbors, out here in this cold weather. We just couldn't do it," Wise said.

He says he appreciates No Limit Church for being willing, and The Table at First Church for being willing to still help from time to time.

Wise says he is busing people to the church, and has personally made many unhoused people in the community aware.

He is also thankful to Brad Fink at Sonny's Barbecue for donating meals for the next two days. Wise welcomes others to donate.

"If you still want to do meals, we'll do to go boxes for them," he says.

On nights that are above 32 degrees, Wise says there are several churches, like Light House Shelter for Women and Children. Their address is 295 North Davis Drive.

"Right now, we don't have much for men. That's why we're hoping to get our new shelter, the homeless shelter at 79 Green Street, open as soon as we can" Wise said.

At No Limit, they are still in need of volunteers to man the warming shelter and do intake. Wise says they would prefer folks to work four-hour shifts, but are thankful for any time you can donate.

They are also looking for other donations like sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, and hygiene products.

"Come join us. We can use your help. We can use your donation so that we can be effective in this venture," Harrington said.

The church is located at 1352 Radio Loop in Warner Robins.
