WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — One Houston County mother says THC gummies made their way into her daughter's school.
Johnice Clarington says on Dec. 18, she got a call from the med-tech at Houston County High School.
"She informed me that my daughter was in her office and that she had been throwing up," Clarington said.
She says her daughter's vital signs were low as well. Later she found out a classmate gave her ninth-grader an edible.
"She said that the student who gave her the edible was a high-achieving student, a good student. She didn't think she would really bring a drug to school and share it with the class," Clarington said.
She says they accept responsibility, but now her daughter will have to attend WIN Academy for the rest of the year. Clarington says she wishes there was another option.
"For me now to need the system to advocate for my child. For me to feel like they've turned their back on her and like they've thrown her to the wolves is devastating to me," she said.
After a visit to WIN Academy, she says they feel a little bit better about the transition.
"The staff there at WIN Academy they really made my daughter and I feel so much better about the process," she said.
They're still questioning what exactly her daughter was given. We did reach out to Houston School District.
A spokeswoman says they are concerned about seeing more THC products in the schools, especially vape-type devices, and they take the issue seriously. She said the district can't comment on Clarington's daughter or discipline in her case.
