MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A Warner Robins man died after being found unconscious on the shoulder of I-75 South in Monroe County over the weekend, according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Darryl Thompson was found in the early hours of Saturday morning near mile marker 180 on the side of I-75 South, the press release said.
They say deputies were dispatched at around 2 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found Thompson alive, but he would later die after being transported to a Macon hospital, the sheriff's office said.
They say Thompson's death is under investigation and his next of kin has been notified.
The press release does not say how long Thompson was on the side of the road or how he got there in the first place.
While the sheriff's office says it is too early to know if foul play was involved, they say Thompson had suffered multiple cuts to the head and was bleeding when he was found.
