Tucker Road Phase One construction continues in Macon

Contractors are continuing the "clearing and grubbing phase" of the road work on Tucker Road, according to the state.

MACON, Ga. — If you see a lot of construction on Tucker Road it's because two bridges are being replaced, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

GDOT told 13WMAZ in March that the bridge over I-475 and Rocky Creek will be replaced by the late summer of 2026.

When driving through the southern end of Tucker Road, prepare for some congestion and construction.

At the time, Gina Snider from the state transportation agency said contractors were beginning the first phase of the project.

GDOT said to prepare for a detour near the end of April, but contractors are continuing their work on the "clearing and grubbing" phase of the project this week. In March, we saw contractors removing trees and shrubs from the sides of Tucker Road.

This week, we saw less congested traffic and roadside greenery.

The state transportation agency told us they expect Phase 1 to be complete by the end of summer 2024.

You can expect some overlap with the roundabout project on Bass Road once phase two launches, Snider said.

Phase Two is the final phase of the project which involves actually removing and replacing the bridges.

So, whenever you're driving on the road, obey the speed limit. Right now, in the Tucker Road construction zones, posted signs say the speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

Be especially careful to slow down whenever you're in work zones for the safety of you and everyone around you.

The Georgia Department of Transportation urges you to drive alert and arrive alive.
