Community shaken after 84-year-old woman is attacked at Macon Dollar General

The teenagers ran away when other people stepped in to help the elderly woman.

MACON, Ga. — In Macon, some neighbors are shaken up after an elderly woman was attacked in an attempted robbery in east Macon at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say it happened in the parking lot of the Dollar General on 2797 Emery Highway.

The woman was approached by three teens wearing all black, which is when the teens attempted to take the woman's car keys, the press release said. The teenagers ran away when other people stepped in.

An employee at the store told us the elderly woman came back to the store Friday morning to pick up her car.

Next door to the Dollar General, Eddie Peacock lives with his family, where he's been there since 1957.

"Picking on old people like this, the lady I think they said was what, 84 years old? This is ridiculous, that old people are doing this," Peacock said.

When the teenagers were running away after the attack, they cut through his property, where his surveillance cameras picked them up. He said good people live in the area, but it has gotten worse over the years because of things like drugs.

"It's a bad thing for the community. It don't matter what community, this stuff happens everywhere now. It's not just in our community, it's, it's all over the nation," Peacock said.

Across the street from Peacock, Ben Dupree's lived in a nearby apartment complex his whole life.

"I understand if you, if you're trying to get some money but you don't need to be out here trying to rob folks, especially their grandma," Dupree said.

He said he wasn't home when the assault happened, but is going to be on the lookout from now on.

"It definitely make me keep my third eye open, for sure. Cause if my grandma would've got- if somebody would've tried that on my grandma, they got something coming for em," Dupree said.

Both men hope the Sheriff's Department can make arrests in the case sooner than later.

"You're gonna get seriously punished if you go picking on old people like this," Peacock said.
