MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is looking for a shade tree mechanic — or an unlicensed local mechanic who performs car repairs — in connection to the March 15 death of 46-year-old Tracie Pitts.
Previously, the sheriff's office said the vehicle that struck and killed Pitts originally left the scene but later returned.
When they arrived, the owner of the vehicle spoke with Bibb County Sheriff's Office Fatality Investigators who said that a "shade tree mechanic" who went by the street "D" or Debo was test-driving her vehicle when they hit Pitts.
When they returned the car to the owner, she said that "D" said she needed to go to the Rocky Creek Road scene.
The sheriff's office is now releasing new details in hopes of identifying the person.
In a Tuesday media release, they say they believe that "D" is a 30-year-old man living in the Bloomfield area. They say he is about 5'6 and weighs about 150 pounds.
They also say he is known to walk his pit bull every day in the Rocky Creek and Bloomfield area.
If you have any information about the identity of "D", you can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
Who is Tracie Pitts:
The family of Pitts said that her death has left a deep hole in their lives.
"My son. My older son. He can’t stop talking about her cause he wanna know why they haven’t arrested the person that killed his mama," Alpha Hightower, Pitt's husband, said.
They remember her as a light-hearted person who lit up the room.
"She was just a fun person like that liked to joke and liked to hug. ‘Give me a hug brother-in-law’ I’d give her a hug and kiss her on the head," Joel Hightower said. "She was just that type of person. A fun person and everyone in the neighborhood loved her and they called her Ms. Bloomfield."
Ronnie and the rest of Tracie’s family is begging for progress in her case before it’s moved to cold case files.
"We want the killer, whoever killed her brought to justice," her nephew Ronnie Hightower said. "We want the killer brought to justice!”
Tracie's family asks anyone with information regarding the March incident to contact the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.
