MACON, Ga. — A 1990's favorite coming to Macon.
The Barenaked Ladies are traveling to perform at the Macon City Auditorium on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. They'll be joined by Toad the Wet Sprocket, who is touring with them as part of their In Flight Tour 2024.
The Barenaked Ladies, known for songs like "One Week" and "If I had $1,000,000," has also written songs for Disney’s “Chicken Little” and the “Big Bang Theory” opening theme song.
While many think of them as 90's and 2000's juggernauts, the band has found a way to release new music and keeping things fresh.
“I think one of the keys to us lasting this long has been the fact that we continue to make new music,” drummer Ty Stewart said. “…Just respecting each other's creative tendencies and our personalities and communication, like any relationship.”
The band released their newest album, “In Flight" in 2023. However, Stewart did promise that the band will play old favorites.
“You’ll still get to hear all those (classics), just some other new Barenaked Ladies songs that we think fit in great with our established catalog,” he said. “And you get to see guys who are challenging themselves on stage playing new music as opposed to just being a jukebox and going out playing your greatest hits.”
One of the songs Stewart is the most excited to play is “Loving Life,” which he said is a celebration of the band’s years together. Listeners may also find meaning in the song too, Stewart said.
“There’s a lot of weird news, negative news, but there’s also a lot to be happy about and a lot to live for,” Stewart said. “Whether it's something as simple as your family pet or your own children, a good golf score, it's a nice day outside and you got food on the table. There’s a lot to be thankful for and sometimes we get mired down in negativity, but we like to try to keep it positive.”
While it’s still a month away, Stewart said he and his bandmates can’t wait to take the stage.
When asked about the tour, he opened with a bold promise: “the greatest live show (the audience has) ever seen."
“We are known for our live show being fun, interactive and spontaneous, chock full of hits you might recognize from the radio or the internet or television,” Stewart said. “We like to have a good time on stage and I think it’s infectious with the whole audience as well.”
