People from all over flock for 4th annual Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race

The rubber duck race offered a variety of monetary prizes and an opportunity to support kids ranging from 5 to 18 years old

MACON, Ga. — People from all over came out to Amerson River Park for a chance to be a “lucky duck.”

Interested participants were offered a chance to bet on a variety of rubber ducks for a chance to win money in the fourth annual Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race.

The race benefitted The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia Triple Play Program and the participating kids, ranging from 5 to 18 years old.

Those interested in participating could buy a variety of ducks. One yellow rubber duck cost $10, but there were deals in place where you could buy six yellow ducks — a “quack pack” — for $50 or 12 yellow ducks — a “ducky dozen” — for $100. Participants could also buy a pink duck for $100.

Ducks were released into the Ocmulgee River and, whoevers duck crossed the finish line first received $5,000, unless it was a pink duck. The pink duck, as long as it came in first, would double the prize pool to $10,000. It did not double anyone’s money total if it placed less than first.

The second place winner won $1,000, the third place winner won $500 and the last place finisher won $1,000.

Over 80 people attended the event, but only one winner was from Macon. Together, they bought $2,000 worth of ducks and entered them into the race.

It ran from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
