WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Robins Air Force Base is overhauling its recruitment strategy, introducing a rapid-fire hiring method that could turn a job fair into an instant career launch for local job seekers.
The base will host its second hiring event of the year on Dec. 12, utilizing Direct Hiring Authority, a process that accelerates federal employment opportunities.
Unlike traditional government hiring, which can take months, this approach allows managers to interview and potentially offer jobs on the spot.
Robert Hubbs, Deputy Director of the 78th Mission Support Group, said the new method is designed to address critical workforce needs.
"Why we do these events is to bring in new talent, to bring in younger talent, to bring in folks who really will help take Robins into the future," Hubbs said.
The hiring landscape at Robins reflects a broader federal workforce challenge. Approximately 60% of federal employees are currently eligible for retirement, creating an urgent need for new talent across multiple disciplines.
The base is actively recruiting for a diverse range of positions, including engineers, cybersecurity professionals, human resources specialists, firefighters, and security forces personnel. Qualifications vary by role, with some positions requiring specific degrees or certifications.
"We're looking for people with degrees," Hubbs explained. "If you have 5, 6, or 10 years of experience, you may qualify for a higher-graded job with more competitive compensation."
The Dec. 12 event will be held at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center in Macon from noon to 7 p.m. Interested candidates must register online by Dec. 2, with a two-step process that requires both initial registration and resume submission.
Hubbs emphasized that the hiring event is more than just filling positions.
"We need to make sure we are grooming and building the next generation of civil servants who will stand next to our military members to help defend the country and to protect the citizens of the United States," he said.
For those unable to secure an immediate interview, the base will continue reviewing resumes from the event pool for up to six months, providing additional employment opportunities.
