MACON, Ga. — Kristofer Haro is going through addiction recovery. He and the organization he's seeking recovery through, The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia and other volunteers will provide meals for people in need this holiday season.
"A hot meal to me is a blessing because it's not a guarantee," Haro said.
"There's a lot of families in our community that do not have transportation, housing or the means to have Christmas meal," Rescue Mission CEO Pat Chastain said
Chastain says they will bring over 1,500 meals to those who need them around Macon on December 22. That includes people experiencing homelessness.
"We're going to cook the meals. It will be ham, mashed potatoes and vegetables. It will be a warm meal. We have volunteers that come in and package the meals and volunteers that come and deliver the meals," VP Dawn Burns said.
Burns says they'll help out with more than meals.
"We also will be taking blankets hygiene kits, blankets, coats, socks," Burns said.
"It brings warmth to the families that don't have families that can bring anything to them," Haro said.
Right now, they are good on volunteers. If you want to get involved in the future, they hand food three times a year, including around Thanksgiving time and in December.
