A Macon barbershop is hoping to uncover possible solutions to some of the problems facing Macon and Bibb County.
Razorline Barbershop held a town hall Monday night to discuss issues like blight and gun violence.
Community members had the chance to speak with county leaders including Sheriff David Davis and commissioners Bert Bivins, Larry Schlesinger, and Virgil Watkins.
The consensus was that better communication between the community and its leaders can help.
Community leaders also agreed that poverty is the root cause of many of Macon's problems.
"Until we figure out the economics, people are gonna be frustrated because, 'I'm poor, I'm broke, the bills are due, I'm stressed, please don't step on my shoe,' right? All that happens and we add to it with the gun culture. Like, at some point we have to break that cycle," said Watkins.
Sheriff Davis said despite his department being short-staffed, violence is decreasing. He said they've collected 200 guns this year and added that this time last year, there had been 18 homicides compared to only 7 this year.
