MACON, Ga. — Poeple in Macon’s Pleasant Hill neighborhood held their 18th annual neighborhood reunion banquet on Saturday.
The reunion, during the Middle Georgia Juneteenth celebration, was a chance for people to come together and get to know each other better.
The neighborhood will also serve as the site for the 32nd annual Juneteenth Freedom Freedom Festival, on June 15-16. While the neighborhood has existed nearly 150 years before Juneteenth, they’ve been celebrating the holiday for over 30 years.
The reunion’s theme this year was “145 Years and Still Standing,” celebrating Pleasant Hill’s existence since the 1870’s. The reunion was, according to an attendee, started by one resident named Ameer Hassan and has been going on 18 years strong since.
A reunion banquet was held on Friday at the LH Williams Center. Further festivities continued on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. People grilled food, sold art and jewelry and interactedwith their neighbors and others in the community.
There was also a bounce house and a dj.
Larry Taylor, a long time resident in the neighborhood, has been coming to the reunion for the past decade.
“The best part about this is seeing people you hadn’t seen in a long time. You just see all your friends,” Taylor said. "All these friends right here that I grew up with and all them generations that came behind us.”
