A Thanksgiving night party in Sandersville ends with person shot, killed, police say

It happened at the 478 Loft Event Center on Highway 15.

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — A man is dead in Sandersville after being shot outside of a party that started on the night of Thanksgiving, Sandersville Police Department said in a Facebook post.

It happened at around 1:30 a.m. Friday at the 478 Loft Event Center on Highway 15.

There were two separate parties at the event center, according to the GBI. Two fights broke out at about 1:30 a.m.

While officers and deputies were trying to break up the fights and disperse the crowd, someone nearby fired gunshots. Officers found Thomas Womble, Jr., age 42, of Sparta, with a gunshot wound.  Womble later died at a local hospital.

One person was killed. It is unclear if there are any other injuries.

Sandersville Police Chief says that Womble was actually the victim of another shooting back in 2020, when he was shot in Sparta at the intersection Faye Street and Lee Street. At that time, he was considered to be in stable condition.

The Sandersville Police Department brought in the GBI and the Washington County Sheriff's Office to help assist in the investigation.
