PERRY, Ga. — The Perry Police Department caught six businesses selling tobacco and vape products to underage buyers, according to a press release from the department.
Out of the nine businesses the department checked, six businesses sold products to a person under the age of 21 without asking for a valid government ID, the press release said.
They conducted the compliance checks on Monday.
Based on a list of businesses that were found to have violated the law, the department targeted convenience and smoke shops.
They say the following businesses were found to have sold tobacco and vape products improperly:
- Whispers Vapor: 745 Main Street
- Perry Food Mart: 719 Carroll Street
- Perry Tobacco and Vapor: 322 Perry Parkway
- Shop and Go: 1114 Macon Road
- Smoke Shop: 1365 Sam Nunn Blvd
- Smoke shop Guru: 1506 Sam Nunn Blvd
The Perry Police Department says they partnered with the Georgia Department of Revenue Alcohol and Tobacco Division.
The store clerks who didn't check IDs were issued a citation from the city, the press release said. The Georgia Department of Revenue also issued citations to the business owners.
They say that the two agencies will continue to do random compliance checks at Perry businesses that sell alcohol, vape and tobacco products.
If you know about any businesses that sell those products to people under 21, the Perry Police Department encourages you to notify Detective Aaron Connor at 478-988-2825.
