Shooting in Fort Valley sends person to the hospital, suspect in custody, police chief says

Police Chief DJ Flores says the shooting happened in the 200 block of Vienna Circle this afternoon.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Fort Valley Police Department is investigating a shooting on Thursday that they believe injured one person, according to Police Chief DJ Flores.

He says it happened at around 4:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Vienna Circle.

A person is being transported to the hospital with what they believe are gunshot wounds, Flores says.

Flores says authorities surrounded a residence and they took a suspect into custody, but he doesn't have the suspected shooter's name.

He says they're still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting.

A man was arrested on the same street on Wednesday in the shooting death of Micah McCant. They believe he was shot and killed after picking up his daughter at a middle school graduation party.

36-year-old Dexter Oliver was arrested in McCant's death, but Flores says they don't know if those two cases are related. While it was on the same street, Flores says it happened in a different block.

Flores asks anyone with information to call the Fort Valley Police Department at 478-825-3383.

This is a developing story. We'll provide more information when it becomes available.
