A new police chief has been hired in Warner Robins, but he's a familiar face in local law enforcement

Wayne Fisher was first appointed as interim chief back in 2022, but he joined the force over two decades ago.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The search is over for a new police chief in Warner Robins, and the final candidate was found close to home.

At the Warner Robins City Council meeting on Monday, the council entered executive session and, as they returned, they announced that current Interim Assistant Police Chief Wayne Fisher has been appointed as the full-time chief.

He had previously served as the interim chief back in October 2022, but he then handed the reins to current Interim Police Chief Roy Whitehead in January.

"I think the police chief for the Warner Robins Police Department and what the community deserves and needs is a teambuilder and a uniter," Fisher said when he was first appointed as interim chief in October 2022.

Fisher has been working in law enforcement in Warner Robins for over two decades. Back in 2022, Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said that Fisher carries respectability among his colleagues and the community.

"Someone who is very well-respected amongst their peers, wherever they came from, someone who understands the heart of our police department and can connect with our guys and have that family environment," Patrick said.

Whitehead is leaving the department entirely. He was hired to offer an outside perspective in the search for a permanent police chief.

John Wagner, who served as the city's police chief for three years, retired in October 2022. He was in law enforcement for 31 year
