MACON, Ga. — Just off Bass Road is a shopping center with a restaurant, buildings under construction, and two hotels. Soon, there could be one more added to the list.
Documents from Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning show a proposal for a new 101-room hotel.
The plan is for a TRU Hotel, which is part of the Hilton Brand.
North Macon resident Charles Martin says it will add to the traffic that is already an issue on Bass Road.
"With the new mall opening and all the new development around here, it's going to be really crowded," Martin said.
The proposed hotel would have four floors and fitness center, making it about 11,000 square feet. This would add to other construction already happening along Bass Road, like the North Macon Plaza.
Back in April, the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Board rezoned 16 acres of woods near this same area. Martin says all this development will be headache for nearby residents, like him.
"It's good for somebody, but it's going to be a lot of traffic, extra traffic," Martin said.
The Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning board will discuss the hotel at their upcoming meeting on August 12.
