MACON, Ga. — About 250 apartments complete with a clubhouse, swimming pool, playground, and even a pet park may soon be coming to the Zebulon Road area in Macon.
In its July 22nd hearing, Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning is scheduled to consider the complex for a 20-acre tract at 749 Lamar Road. It's across the street from the rear of the Kohl's Department Store.
Plans call for 60 one-bedroom units, and 192 apartments with two or more bedrooms. The plans also show some garage spaces, a large clubhouse, swimming pool, a playground, and a pet park. You can view the proposal here.
A short distance down Zebulon Road from that project, there are plans for a new retail project. It's part of the newly built "Lofts At Zebulon" development just before you get to Wal-Mart.
Plans call for two buildings. Each would contain several businesses. They don't name specific stores and restaurants, but show a coffee shop, cell phone shop, deli, and mattress retailer as an example of the types of businesses they hope to attract. It's part of the master plan to provide "walkable" shopping options for people who live in the lofts they just opened on the same property. You can see the proposal here.
The board is also planning to review a project in downtown Macon's historic black Tybee Neighborhood in the old Lower Poplar industrial area.
Plans for "The Triangle Arts Project" include an indoor party/wedding venue with an outdoor patio, a business incubator building, art studios, and a huge open-air hangar that could eventually host large indoor events.
The owners say the isolated setting makes it a perfect spot for music and entertainment festivals and events since it's away from any homes. Here are their plans for the four buildings on the property.
Other downtown projects on the July 22nd agenda include Exhalee which bills itself as a lounge offering beer, wine, and Hookahs. It would be at 557 Cherry Street. The owners also plan to offer free music and Karaoke, along with open mic nights. They won’t serve food but would allow you to bring in outside food.
At 3097 Broadway there are plans for Southern Peaches Pickin’ In The South to open a spot for estate and consignment sales. They are an auction/consignment company. They owners say they sometimes have to close out estates prior to sales or auctions, and they hope to be able to offer those services at this location.
The Monday, July 22, 2019 meeting of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission is at the Terminal Station at 200 Cherry Street, Suite 300. They meet in the P & Z conference room beginning at 1:30 p.m.
