Neighbors want safety measures on Jones Road after fatal crash on Saturday

Saturday's crash happened around noon. A 19-year-old was killed in the crash.

MACON, Ga. — Some neighbors in Macon say enough is enough, after a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday on Jones Road.

Judson Bedingfield has lived on the street for about four years. He's just a few homes away from the site of Saturday's crash.

"It's nothing unusual to hear high speed bikes or cars come through here," Bedingfield said.

He said it was just a matter of time before someone got seriously hurt.

Neighbors told WMAZ Saturday's crash happened when a minivan pulled out of School Road and hit the motorcycle going down Jones Road.

"There's just multiple outlets that somebody could pull out at any given time, and that's what's happened here," Bedingfield said.

He said he expects to see another crash, if people don't drive safer.

Down the road, neighbor Rodney Queen agrees.

"Biggest issue is speed," Queen said. "It's 35 miles per hour posted, but that's a joke. Nobody goes 35."

The crash happened right in front of his home, where the victim's family has now left a memorial at the site.

Queen said in about 30 years of living at his home, they've had four car accidents happen on his property. One time a drunk driver blew through the stop sign on School Road, and crashed into his daughter's bedroom, hitting her bed.

"I've asked for one of those speed signs that tells you how fast you're going. But nothing's been done yet," Queen said.

On Facebook, some neighbors said the intersection where the crash happened doesn't have clear visibility down the street, because of these trees blocking the view on someone's property.

A 13WMAZ reporter made that drive multiple times, and also noticed the same visibility issue when you are parked right at the stop-sign line.

We reached out to County Commissioner Bill Howell about Jones Road since it's in his district.

He was out of town Monday, but we will follow up with him next week.

Family of victim Christopher Allen Jr. started this GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
