PERRY, Georgia — At Tucker Elementary School in Perry, Mrs. Kristy Matthews is in her 23rd year teaching. She says she's passionate about her students and it shows in everything they do.
One of Matthews' fourth graders, Landon Respress, wrote an email telling us many reasons why he wanted her to be a My Teacher is Tops winner. So Junior Journalist Satch Gilbert went down to Perry to surprise her. As soon as he told her the news, Mrs. Matthews gave Satch a big ole' hug.
Landon read his email out loud, saying, "Mrs. Matthews makes learning fun, and she lets us get comfortable while teaching. She never goes ahead with another lesson until the whole class understands."
Mrs. Matthews didn't expect an honor like this, but she says it is amazing to teach fourth grade. She taught second grade before, but she likes fourth grade
better.
