After a 2-year-old killed in Houston County, the boy's mother accused in his death gets bond

Judge Katherine Lumsden set Kianna Davis' bond at $15,000.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Houston County judge set bond for a mother accused of murdering her toddler.

Kianna Davis is accused of beating 2-year-old Karter Ambrose between Nov. 15 and Nov. 17, 2020, according to her indictment.

The 32-year-old mother faced Judge Katherine Lumsden Thursday morning just after 9:45 a.m. in courtroom 2 inside the Houston County Courthouse.

About a dozen of Davis' supporters sat behind the defendant at her bond hearing, including her mother and grandfather.

Tamera Jones and James Kennedy were asked to take the stand by Davis' lawyer.

They both testified they support Davis and asked the judge to set bond, saying she's cooperated with investigators since her son died.

"She's been doing everything she needed to do for the last three years, trying to find out answers and help them," Jones said.

Davis is accused of hitting her son, Karter Ambrose, with an unknown object three years ago. It caused a lacerated kidney that killed the toddler, the indictment states.

Prosecutors said Karter suffered severe injuries to his liver, pancreas and intestine.

They say Davis told people the child was hurt when he jumped off a couch, but they say she also blamed the injuries on hospital workers.

"Medical examiners looked at that and the force which required to cause such an injury is not that particular experience from falling off of furniture," the prosecutor said.

They also told the judge that Davis was a flight risk and should not be released.

However, Judge Lumsden set her bail at $15,000 with conditions, including no contact with her co-defendant and house arrest at her grandfather's home, where she was arrested.

Davis' co-defendant is Kiyon Devoy Benton, a friend but not the father of the Karter.

According to District Attorney William Kendall, Benton has not been arrested yet; the case is still active.

After the bond hearing, 13WMAZ requested a comment from Jones and Kennedy; they declined.
