DUBLIN, Ga. — After a mass shooting happened in Dublin on Easter Sunday, the mom of one of the victims, Zanobia Chatman, said she's thankful for the good news of three arrests.
The shooting injured five people and killed two others around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. It happened at a home on West Avenue in Dublin. The GBI said a car pulled up to the home during a party Sunday morning and opened fire.
Kesha Chatman is still processing what happened that day when she got a call her daughter was shot.
"It was a lot to take in cause really, I was shocked. You know, I was shocked cause I didn't know how my child was and knowing, you know- had heard about her close friend... it just- everything was just going on and just shocked," Chatman said.
She said her daughter was shot twice but is currently home recovering from surgery. The GBI announced on Wednesday that they arrested three men for the shooting: 22-year-old Kyndall Brazeal, 23-year-old Jaswain Bell and 27-year-old Quintez Mercer.
Chatman said she finally felt some relief.
"I was just thanking my God. I was thanking Jesus that all the families, Miyori, everyone got justice. My child got justice. I was just thanking God," she said.
Bell has 23 charges related to Sunday's shooting: two counts of Felony Murder, seven counts of Aggravated Assault, seven counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, seven counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention.
In 2019, when he was 18, Dublin Police said Bell was involved in a shooting that was part of a drug deal that turned into a robbery.
According to the Laurens County Superior Court clerk's office, Bell was never indicted in that 2019 shooting. They told us the case is still before the District Attorney's office.
13WMAZ called District Attorney Craig Fraser, and he didn't return our calls about the case. We also went to visit in person, but their door was locked and there was a sign on the door stating they were only taking appointments on April 4.
Also in 2017, Bell was one of six teenagers arrested for a Wrightsville shooting. Similar to Sunday's shooting, a car of teens fired shots into a home, and then led police on a chase into East Dublin.
Three firearms were recovered from that car in 2017, and one of them was stolen.
As of yesterday, the GBI said one victim remained in the hospital, and they were in stable condition.
