MONROE COUNTY, Georgia — A Monroe County man died after he was involved in an altercation with jail employees on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a domestic dispute on Pioneer Trail in Jackson.

When they got there, they arrested Joshua Marshall on family violence charges and took him to the Monroe County jail.

The release says an "altercation" between Marshall and jail employees happened while they were booking Marshall at the jail.

That's when Marshall became unresponsive. Monroe EMS was called in to help, and Marshall was taken to the Monroe County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case, the release says.
