MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — One of the best parts of back-to-school season for many students is showing off all their new supplies.
Whether it's a new pencil pouch or a new backpack, it's the little things that can make students feel special and ready to learn.
A church in Milledgeville helped students feel fresh and parents save money with their swag conference.
"It gives us an opportunity to be able to give back to the community as well so we're using this event in conjunction with being able to give back school supplies, bookbags, just anything the students need to be able to go back to school and start the school year," pastor Julius Trawick said.
The more than 230 kids registered got more than just supplies. They received other tools they can use in the classroom.
The church offered discussion on bullying, peer pressure, and mental health.
El Bethel Baptist Church says their student asked to learn more about these topics before heading back to school.
"We are not just a church that's planted into the community. We want to be the church of the community and being the church of the community, we are constantly looking for ways to be a part of that community and to bring the community into the church," Trawick said.
They had speakers from the Baldwin County School District and Georgia State College and University.
