'Stop by your favorite neighborhood spot' | Doc's Milledgeville opens doors to offer 'cozy' spot for Baldwin County

They offer sandwiches, snacks and more. When developing the menu, the owner says they were looking to fill a need in the community and offer 'diverse' menu options.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A new restaurant, Doc's Milledgeville, has opened its doors where Metropolis Cafe used to be, the restaurant announced on Facebook

"We wanted to do some fun sandwiches that you can't find anywhere else in Milledgeville," owner Sammy Roberts said.

The menu at Doc's offers a diverse selection of sandwiches, snacks and more.

The restaurant features sandwiches ranging from a classic "breakfast sammy" to Cubans and Reubens to a Bahn Mi. They also offer a small selection of salads and build-your-own hot dogs.

They also have charcuterie boards, poutine and an array of fries. Rounding out your meal, they offer a house-made key lime pie for dessert.

When developing the menu, Roberts says he was trying to fill a need in the Milledgeville culinary space.

"Milledgeville is oversaturated with the typical bar food ... and that's fine but we need a little variety," Roberts said. "I was thinking of sandwiches I like ... there's a lot of cultural food so why don't I try and add as much diversity as possible to allow people to try different cuisines."

Roberts is no stranger to the Milledgeville food scene. In fact, he used to work at Metropolis Cafe which occupied the spot that Doc's would open up in.

When the restaurant moved locations, Roberts was looking for a job outside of the food since he has a business degree. But when he realized no one had leased the space yet, an idea began to formulate.

"I didn't really find any good job listing, so when it came to my attention no one had tried to lease this place out, I was thinking — maybe we could do something here?" Roberts said.

As a new restaurant,  they're still in a little bit of a development phase. They don't have alcoholic drinks yet and the menu and prices can change as they work to sort things out. They're also working on getting mobile orders up.

But Roberts wants the restaurant to be a place anyone can find comfort in.

"I just want to cater to as many people," Roberts said.

If you're vegetarian, a sandwich lover or you like wine and enjoy fancy drinks, Roberts is trying to build a spot for the Milledgeville community by the Milledgeville community.

He said he wants to make a restaurant where you can catch a game or grab a quick bite to eat during your lunch break.

"I would say come by stop by your favorite neighborhood spot," Roberts said. "If you want a cozy little nook, stop by and enjoy a gourmet sandwich."

And if you are looking for a recommendation, Roberts highlighted the Cuban and bahn mi.

Doc's Milledgeville is located at 138 Wayne Street. It's open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and you can find its current menu here.
