Man who was missing since December found dead inside of chimney on Courtland Avenue in Macon

Just last week, a community wide search for the man was organized by his family.

MACON, Ga. — A man was found dead inside a chimney of a home in the 1000 block of Courtland Ave on Friday night.

In a release, the Sheriff's Office said the call came in just after 9 p.m.

They said they found the body stuck in the chimney, and they called the Bibb Fire Department to help them remove it.

Due to the condition of the body, Coroner Leon Jones believes the man had been dead for several weeks.

On Saturday morning, Jones was able to identify the man as Anthony Rumplik, who had been missing since late December.

Just last week, a community wide search for Rumplik was organized by his family.

At the time of the search, his sister said Rumplik was just passing through Macon heading to Florida when he broke down. He stayed and had been renting a place on Courtland. His landlord found his door open and said the scene looked suspicious and contacted the family.

Jones said Rumplik lived at the home where they found him.

Jones and the Sheriff's Office say the body will be sent to the GBI for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The case is still under investigation, and the Sheriff's Office says they will send out more information when it becomes available.
