Irwinton man killed after crashing truck into tree in Wilkinson County, GSP says

They say the man was trying to make a turn on Highway 57 but was unable to maintain his lane.

WILKINSON COUNTY, Ga. — An 86-year-old man was killed in a crash in Wilkinson County on Wednesday, according to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol.

They say it happened at around 4:15 p.m. when the driver was attempting to navigate a turn on Highway 57 near mile maker 8.

The victim, identified as Wilbert Williams by Coroner Billy Matthews, was unable to maintain his lane, the release said.

That's when they say Williams struck a tree with the front of his Chevy Silverado.

After hitting the tree, the truck rotated counterclockwise and then came to a final resting place facing southwest, the press release said.

Williams was from Irwinton, and his next of kin has been identified.
