Stolen car careens into steps of Macon home after police chase, Bibb County Sheriff's Office says

When a deputy attempted to pull the driver over in east Macon, they sped off leading authorities on a chase that eventually ended near downtown Macon.

MACON, Ga. — A teen is accused of crashing a stolen car into the steps of a Macon home Friday afternoon after leading authorities on a police chase, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say 17-year-old Andrew Howard was driving a stolen Honda Pilot on Jeffersonville Road when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When they attempted to pull Howard over at around 12:30 p.m., the sheriff's office says he sped off.

The chase between Howard and the sheriff's office led authorities through roughly two miles of county streets, but the chase would eventually end with the car smashing into the exterior steps of a home at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Madison Street. That's right outside of downtown.

Howard then ran across Riverside Drive towards Rose Hill Cemetery where sheriff's deputies were able to capture him, the press release said. They say Howard was interrogated and then booked into the Bibb County jail.

At around 1 p.m., sheriff's deputies were controlling traffic and a group of deputies were lingering around the scene of the crash.

A few minutes later, a tow truck backed up towards the SUV, which was elevated a few feet above the road. They were able to remove the SUV from the site, but it left an imprint on the home's lawn and the crash caused damage to the exterior steps of the home.

Now, Howard is facing multiple criminal charges. They say he is charged with two counts of felony theft by taking for stealing the car, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony feeling and eluding and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He currently does not have bond.

They say the investigation is still on-going. They say if you have any information, you are asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
